My First Birding Competition

April 13th, 2024--Third Place In My First Birding Competition

The competition commenced smoothly, with our team spotting a Eurasian Hoopoe on the lawn and a Common Kingfisher flying by the river at the outset. Near the Love Pavilion's small pond, we were fortunate to observe two Red-Whiskered Bulbuls, a particularly rare bird species. As we ventured into the forest during the middle of the competition, we documented various buntings, sparrows, warblers, and starlings. Towards the end of the event, we encountered a very rare wild Chinese Hwamei. On our way back to the rendezvous point after the competition, we discovered a Gray Nightjar peacefully resting on a tree trunk—a total surprise!

In total, our team recorded 34 different bird species within three hours and secured Third Place in the competition.
