July 4th, 2024, Birding @ Ulungur Lake Part 2
The next day, after I found the White-Headed Duck, I went back to the Ulungur Lake to find some more birds.
The bird on the left is the Little Grebe. It is fairly common to see, and it is distributed across Asia, Europe, and South Africa. I observed this bird in the wetlands of Shanghai before.

In the middle of the lake, I saw a pair of Great
Crested Grebes are dating each other. The fur on the male Grebe is open; it is a key component of its elaborate courtship display.

I observed a White Wagtail standing on a tree branch, with a worm in its mouth. It's so different from the White Wagtail in Shanghai! The white wagtails in Shanghai were always so clean, and the head was divided between black and white so sharply.
However, the ones I recently came up by the late at Xinjiang looked completely different: their heads were oddly black, top to bottom, as though they wore masks, and their backs were darker, making them look rude and wild.
