Some Things Other Than Birds

June 29th, 2024, Birding @ Wutong Creek Part 3

Sand Lizard
Sand Lizard

When I was concentrating on taking pictures of the Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, one of my peers shouted out, Gazelle! I turned my head and saw a Goitered Gazelle staring in my direction. Sadly, the moment I picked up my camera, it charged away. It was my first time seeing a wild animal so closely, but it was so fast. I only remember that it had large, a bit twisty horns and a coat just like the color of the desert. It was jumping as it ran, just like the Gazelles shown in documentaries.

After a while of walking, I saw a Sand Lizard on the ground, enjoying the sunshine. At first, its tail was straight, and its head was up, alert. As time passed, the lizard gradually closed its eyes and curled its tail. Such a cute little guy!
